The Case Against Positive Thinking
Positive thinking as thought and practice by many
people is actually not as dangerous as negative thinking. But it has it
downsides. You have been reading and hearing from many people that
thoughts are powerful. But the thing that you will have to know is that
it is not totally powerful. There is another aspect which you have to
know and it is the reality.
For example, you can try to think of
turning a page in the newspaper. You can think for the next 10 years
and you will still not be able to turn a page in the newspaper.
Thoughts are powerful but you must also realize the reality. There is a
lot of power in your physical ability too.
If you do not know how
to differentiate the reality and the thoughts, you will go through a
stage of denying the truth of what’s actually happening for a mental
image which you find more pleasant.
For example you have cut on
your forehead. The positive thinker might say to you that your head is
fine and you should just think of that cut as a illusion. But in actual
fact, you have a cut and that is the reality. But what you can do is
that to wipe up the wound and have a positive thinking that the wound
will heal faster.
Having a positive thinking is important but we
must also be aware of our reality. If you know how to balance between
reality and positive thinking, you will be able to achieve the dreams
and goals that you want.
